Nur wenige absolvieren die zweite Etappe der Tuareg-Rallye ✖️
Die zweite Etappe der Tuareg-Rallye war für viele Teilnehmer zu schwierig. In der ersten Etappe erreichten nur 20 Prozent alle Kontrollpunkte, am zweiten Tag waren es noch weniger. Die letzten Konkurrenten hatten es erst im Dunkeln geschafft. Das große Thema waren die Dünen am Ende der Etappe in der Nähe von Beni Abbes, die die Pro-Rider zweimal machen mussten.
Bereits in den ersten 70 km der Etappe - etwas Dünen gefolgt von einem breiten Sandstrand - wurden große Unterschiede gemacht. Der deutsche Tabellenführer Thorsten Kaiser fiel im letzten Teil und brach sich das Schlüsselbein. Der Sieg des Tages ging an Arenas Gelazninkas aus Litauen.
Die Route war so, obwohl viele Konkurrenten zu der Zeit, als sie zu den Dünen kamen, erschöpft waren und viele von ihnen die zweite Schleife einfach übersprangen, auch weil das GPS zu kompliziert war. Der Niederländer Henno van Bergeijk schaffte es nicht einmal bis zum Beginn der Dünensektion, aber das war an seiner eigenen Schuld: Er hatte in einem Dorf Mittag gegessen und war am Anfang der Dünensektion zu spät.
In der Kategorie Autos gewann der Algerier Lofti Ben Mansour ebenfalls die zweite Etappe. Für das niederländische Frauenteam von Sascha Bloemhoff und Gerda Ansems wurde die Wertung zerstört, nachdem das Auto in den Dünen rollte. Das Auto der Damen blieb stecken und ein polnisches Auto, das zu helfen versuchte, zog sie nicht einfach los, sondern tat es mit so viel Kraft, dass das Auto umkippte.
Die Windschutzscheibe war kaputt und das Dach war beschädigt. Schlimmer war jedoch, dass das Öl aus dem Ladeluftkühler in den Luftfilter gelangte.
"Der Motor hatte einen Overdrive und ich musste ihn herunterfahren, um weiteren Schaden zu vermeiden", sagte Bloemhoff. Ihr Freund Wouter de Graaff, der Automechaniker im Alltag ist, hatte die Etappe bereits mit dem Motorrad beendet, aber er ging zurück in die Dünen, um den Damen zu helfen. Es gelang ihm, das Auto wieder zum Laufen zu bringen, und die Frauen fuhren vorsichtig bis zum Ziel in der Nähe von Beni Abbes am Fuße der Dünen. „Zuerst müssen wir uns den Schaden genau ansehen und dann werden wir sehen, ob wir noch einmal anfangen wollen. Wenn ja, dann bin ich in der Expertenklasse, weil ich denke, dass es zu gefährlich ist, die Pro-Route ohne Windschutzscheibe zu fahren “, sagte Bloemhoff.

The second stage of the Tuareg Rally was too difficult for many participants. In the first stage only 20 percent made it to all the checkpoints, on the second day it was even less. The last few competitors only made it tot he finish when it was already dark. The big issue were the dunes at the end of the stage near Beni Abbes, that the Pro-riders had to do twice.
Already in the first 70 kms of the stage – a bit of dunes followed by a wide sandy oued – big differences were made. The German leader of the rankings, Thorsten Kaiser, fell in the final part and broke his collar bone. Victory of the day went to Arenas Gelazninkas of Lithuania.
The route was so though many of the competitors were exhausted by the time they came tot he dunes and thus a lot of them simply skipped the second loop, also because the GPS was too complicated. Dutchman Henno van Bergeijk didn’t even make it tot he start of the dune section, but that was by his own fault: he had stopped for lunch in a village and was too late at the start of the dune section.
In the cars category Algerian Lofti Ben Mansour also won the second stage. For the Dutch women’s team of Sascha Bloemhoff and Gerda Ansems the classification was destroyed after the car rolled in the dunes. The car of the ladies got stuck and a Polish car that tried to help didn’t just pull them loose, but did that with so much force the car rolled over.
The windscreen was broken and the roof was damaged, but worse was that the oil from the intercooler leaked into the air filter.
“The engine ran into overdrive and I had tos hut it down to avoid further damage”, Bloemhoff said. Her boyfriend Wouter de Graaff, who is a car mechanic in daily life, had already finished the stage on the motorbike but he went back into the dunes to help the ladies. He managed to get the car running again and the women drove carefully to the finish near Beni Abbes at the foot of the dunes. “First we have to look what the damage is exactly and then we will see whether we want to start again. If so, i twill be in the Expert class because I think it is too dangerous to do the Pro route without a windscreen”, Bloemhoff said.
